33 Years of Consulting Experience

I started my first business when I was 18 and I bought a distressed restaurant which I miraculously sold for a profit. 

 

I soon realised that I hated the restaurant business and did what any entrepreneur would do and that is buy another restaurant, this time it fantastically failed. 

 

I began working in the Conventions and incentives industry as a consultant to attract major International corporate events to Australia. I advised and consulted on major bids for multi million dollar events and succeeded in securing over $200 Million in my first 12 months working with major venues and destinations around Australia.

One day, I met with a managing partner at one of the largest consulting firms in the world and my life changed forever.

 

With just a suitcase in have I moved to New York City with the dream to start to work as a consultant, the job was never offered and I would spend the next 2 months trying to convince them that they would be making a serious mistake if they didnt hire me.

 

I hustled my way in began working and learning from the masters of problem solving and business strategy.

 

I served 3 years and gave blood and life to my work with some of the smartest mentors and strategic business minds on the planet, but I didn't want to work for someone else for the rest of my life. I wanted to do my own thing.

 

I had the knowledge and experience of solving some sticky problems so launched the smallest but the most talented consulting firm in the world, it was here that my world came crashing down for the second time because I was essentially selling time for money and became a freelancer. Ba Bow.. and I learnt some Big lessons here

 

Firstly, Don't sell time for money and don't stay small. When you are your business you can't take vacations and time out without taking a financial hit. I remember Noel Gallagher the front man from OASIS once said  I don’t live to work, I work to live”

I didn't want to be handcuffed to work a slave to my clients whyms and I think i was dabbling in the former and wanted to experience the latter.
